Andrew Stewart
‘Untitled’ (2015)
Series of 3D vessels
Ceramics, wood, plaster.
Stewarts work combines large scale ceramic vessels with carved wooden forms
utilising discarded elements of the making process to explore texture and form. By
using recycled materials, such as, wood shavings and paper it gives a second
purpose to the materials that would otherwise be disposed. The main purpose is to
emphasise that natural textures and materials can be combined in an unexpected
manner to create objects which are functionally and aesthetically pleasing.
The understanding of the materials’ properties, characteristics and processes, such
as industrial crank clay to porcelain, is an important factor to ensure that the final
product is completed to high standards.  Incorporating and using the properties of
other materials as well, such as, wood shavings and paperadds a different
dimension to Stewarts work by making the viewer question how they was created.

Work Bitch

I go by the mantra "Work Bitch" and these last few weeks we have all been living up to that.

This week most of us have been working on what we are showing in the exhibition, This ranges from wall mounted canvases to ceramics and wood work , A pivotal week for myself and some of the other artists as we have made great strives in our exploration of materials and technique to make the best work possible for you all to see.
Friday is our deadline for images to go into our book so it can be printed in time for the exhibition, this is really exciting to me because it will be amazing to see our work in print.

Lights Camera Action

Today most of us had our photographs taken for the exhibition catalog, the photographs have been taken by Martin Owen who will be exhibiting photographs in the exhibition so who better to do our mug shots than him.
It was a battle to get the lights sorted but everything came together, so anyone purchasing a catalog at the exhibition will have the pleasure of being able to see the person behind the work.

Looking through the photographs showed how different we all are in the sense of age, ethnicity, sex and style, but what those shots will never show is how we work as a team ensuring this exhibition contains the best of all our work and is a success and really thats what should be highlighted not what we look like but the camaraderie and talent of the collective.

I hope that's given you something to think about !!
